IMPORTANT NOTICE
OPERATION SUGGESTION  FOR THE BROOKSBNK COMBI APRON ON NSC COMBING MACHINES
In order for the BROOKSBNK ‘COMBI’ APRON to run efficiently and achieve a long life the following three important points should be observed :-
RUNNING IN PERIOD

The Brooksbnk ‘Combi’ Apron should be fitted and run for at least 30 minutes with material at the slowest speed setting, until the apron is printed, centred and the tension is correctly adjusted. The speed may then be increased to the normal production speed. It is very important that the apron remains properly centred during the running in period.

TENSIONING
The Brooksbnk ‘Combi’ Apron Perform as its best whilst running at the minimum possible tension which allows efficient combing of the fibre. It is very Important not to over tension, as this will permanently strech and damage the apron, and will reduce apron life considerably.

Initially Tension at about 3mm+ on each side as indicated by the tension gauges. The ‘Combi’ apron shold then be run for some time (up to 36 hours) and then readjusted to between 5mm and 15mm on each side, depending on how much readjustment is required for efficient running.

When tension the apron adjust the tension on both sides using increments of only 1-2mm at time.

When Realigning the apron,  increase the tension on the side to which the apron tends to deviate using increments of 1-2mm. (If increments of more than 1-2mm are used the apron will deviate too far to the other side of the fluted rollers causing edge damage to the apron and also permanent damage from overstretching).

Gradual tensioning
of the  apron is very important to ensure long life.

The tension gauges on either side of the apron must be properly calibrated and must periodically be checked for looseness and wear, as this could lead to incorrect tensioning, and one side of the apron inadvertently being tensioned more than the other.

It should also be remembered that the apron top plate and anti-lap roller assembly give some extra tension to the apron when engaged in the running position.

TENSIONING :-  PLEASE ALSO ALWAYS READ PAGES C55 AND C57 OF THE NSC PB 32 OPERATOR’S MANUAL (OR THE RELEVANT PAGE IN ANY OTHER NSC MANUAL).

PRESSURE ON DRAWING OFF CYLINDERS

For the most efficient operation of a Brooksbank Combo Apron the reading on the gauge should be about 85mm. if the nip distance is altered or if a new combing apron is mounted on the machine, the pressure on the drawing off cylinder shold be checked. Too much pressure on the drawing off cylinders will reduce the life expectancy of th combing apron
